2006 World Shakespeare Festival

Welcome to the Lit Moon’s World Shakespeare Festival, the first of its kind in these United States. The festival celebrates the work of the world’s greatest playwright, showcases some of the world’s most exciting talents working with Shakespeare today, and provides exhilarating theatre for our audiences.

The festival is highlighted by eight fully staged productions of both famous and not-so-famous plays, plus related panels, addresses, exhibits, music and performance art, and numerous social opportunities to hobnob with local and visiting theatre artists.

We are delighted to welcome four exhilarating international companies: Bulgarian National Theatre from Sofia; Teatr Modjeska from Legnica, Poland; Canis Tempus from Montreal, Quebec; and the State Puppet Theatre from Bourgas, Bulgaria.

The festival also celebrates local, home-grown work from the Santa Barbara region: artists and scholars from the UCSB Department of Dramatic Art, Theatre Arts students from UCSB and Westmont College, local singers and performance artists, and of course our own Lit Moon Theatre Company.

The festival shows a range of approaches to Shakespeare’s plays, and values bold, original interpretations rooted in highly visual approaches to theatre. The festival offers exuberant performances of some of the world’s greatest plays, and – as arts critic D J. Palladino said of our 2003 festival -- “a relentless window onto the world of theatrical possibility.” Buy your tickets and come join us for 10 unforgettable days of Shakespeare!
